Ducks Cook The Buffs in the Second Half

They say revenge is a dish best served cold, but for the Ducks it was served hot, as they pulled away in the second half, en route to a 90-81 win over Colorado.

Now some of you asked me why I didn't preview the game like I usually do?  Well the answer for that is simple:  it was for superstitious reasons.  I didn't wanna jinx the Ducks this time like I did before, the last time Oregon played CU.

However, things weren't looking so good in the first half, looking like it wouldn't have mattered IF I had written a preview:  the Ducks fell behind due to poor shooting - while Colorado was hot - and the announced crowd of 10,056 sreamin Duck fans were all BUT rowdy.

Altman must've given his best Knute Rockne impression at halftime, because Oregon came out in the second half a different team.  The Ducks scored 12 straight points to take a 56-47 lead, and never really looked back.  Colorado - once hot - suddenly found themselves struggling for points.

Oregon (21-8) is in much better position now, but their work is not over yet.  To clinch a top four seed for the Pac 12 tournament next week (top 4 seeds get a first round bye, thus avoiding that Wednesday game, in which no conference tourney champion has ever had to play) Oregon needs to win Saturday against Utah, or have Colorado lose to the barkrats (Oregon State).

NOTES:

  • Oregon’s 12 conference wins are the most by the Ducks since they won the Pac-10 regular season title with a 14-4 record in 2002
  • The Ducks are 14-3 in games decided by fewer than 10 points
  • The announced attendance of 10,056 was the fourth-largest crowd of the season in Matthew Knight Arena
